Chevening Scholarships

The Chevening Scholarships programme is funded by the British Government and aims to bring future leaders, decision-makers, and opinion-formers to the United Kingdom for postgraduate studies of up to 12 months at a formative stage in their careers.

We look for candidates wishing to study in the following areas: climate change, energy technology, sustainable development, good governance, public administration, and interregional trade policies.

Applications for Chevening Scholarships and HSBC-Chevening Scholarships for the academic year 2009 - 2010 are now closed and all candidates selected for interview have been advised.  We  encourage candidates not selected for these interviews to revise other options below.


Chevening scholarships: global applications

Besides the scholarships awarded annually by the Embassy, there are  other Chevening scholarship opportunities open to Peruvian applicants as part of global competitions. Selection decisions for these scholarships are taken in London, on the basis of bids from British Embassies.  The schemes are:


UNEP-WCMC Chevening Scholarships in Biodiversity

Closing date:  3rd April 2009

The UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre, in collaboration with the Foreign & Commonwealth Office of the British Government and with support from The Salters' Company, is pleased to offer up to four UNEP-WCMC Chevening Scholarships in Biodiversity beginning in October 2009.

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to spend a full year at the Cambridge-based Centre, where they will work alongside our international experts to help build the knowledge base on biodiversity that supports international policy and decision-making in the UN Environment Programme, multi-lateral environmental agreements, and the private sector.

Shell Chevening Programme

Closing date:  the beginning of March of the year of study, but this may vary depending on the University of choice.

Chevening scholarships are also awarded as part of the Shell Chevening programme. Under various Masters programmes, the Shell Chevening Scholarships offer postgraduate students from developing countries the opportunity to study in the United Kingdom and gain skills that will make a long-term contribution to the further development of their countries.

British Universities that participate in this programme are University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, University of Leeds, University College of London, University of Edinburgh, Imperial College of London, and Durham University.  Among the courses eligible for study are LLM Law, MSc Development Studies, LLM International Trade & Commercial Law, MSc Environmental Change & Management, MSc Global Governance & Diplomacy, MSc Public Policy in Latin America, MA Human Rights, MSc Public Understanding of Environmental Change.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) together with Rio Tinto plc, and the CEPMLP at the University of Dundee acknowledge the importance of contributing worldwide to sustainable mineral resources development.  As part of their partnership's activities they offer up to a maximum of 10 fully funded postgraduate scholarships for the academic year 2009/2010 leading to the degree Master of Laws (LLM) in Mineral Law and Policy.
