Living in Peru
There are approximately 2000 British nationals living in Peru, most of them in Lima. Many of the British residents are registered at the Consular Section.
Peru is a multilingual country with a rich ethnic diversity. Spanish is the official language, and English is popular among its citizens, although not spoken by everyone. The Roman Catholic religion is the major in Peru, which makes it a conservative country with popular religious traditions. The official currency is the Nuevo Sol , but dollars are also accepted in many commercial places. Peru is a democratic country and there are presidential, parliamentary, regional and municipal elections every certain time.
There are some British schools and clubs in Peru, as well as Honorary Consuls in Cusco, Arequipa and Trujillo (link). The British Embassy and the British Peruvian Chamber of Commerce celebrates some British festivities, which represent an opportunity for the British community to gather.
